Commercial Airplane Interior of the Future
CURRENT EXHIBITS

On This Page:

Materials Zone

Here you see past and future fuselage sections and the materials of which they're made. A complete, one-piece, barrel section from the testing phase of the new Boeing 787 lets you compare it to a cut-away section from an old Boeing 707 fuselage. You can touch the sections to see how rivets have been reduced and see the thicknesses of the differing fuselage sections.

Passenger Experience Zone

Watch a narrated video on the history of the passenger experience from the Boeing 707 through the 787 Dreamliner. Near the one-piece barrel, enter a commercial airplane interior of the future. Here you experience the new, larger windows, storage bins and aisles and see how the passenger experience is evolving. Watch a three-screen multimedia presentation about the 787 Dreamliner in six languages! Step outside the interior mock-up and view the latest in in-flight entertainment from the Panasonic Avionics Corporation's in-flight systems.

The Passenger Experience Research Center (P.E.R.C.) has moved into the Future of Flight and soon opens its own futuristic exhibit while continuing its research mission for Boeing.

XJ5 Flight Simulator

Take an exhilarating ride aboard the multi-passenger XJ5 Flight Simulator. Fly with the best pilots in the world as they soar above unknown territory at treetop level, trusting the latest computers, technology and satellite guidance systems to complete their mission - all at mind-jarring, supersonic speeds. (There is an additional charge, separate from admission, to ride in the XJ5 Flight Simulator.)

Flight Systems Zone

Here you learn about the onboard but unseen systems that make airliners work: flight control, avionics, navigation systems and hydraulics.

For Young Children

While all the zones have exhibits and graphics geared for school-age children, younger kids and toddlers can play with aviation-related toys in the Children's Play Area. It is intentionally placed midway through the overall Future of Flight experience to provide parents with a place to rest while their young children play.

Flight Deck Zone

Experience flight decks from the "dial and switches" era of the 727 flight deck to the current "flat panel" in airliners and then the future era of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Take a virtual tour of the 787 flight deck. Also view videos of historical flight decks while listening to narration about the reliability, safety and maintenance of flight decks.

Manufacturing Zone

Discover the future of airliner manufacturing using 3D animation.

Propulsion/Engines Zone

See real engines and learn about the different engine types and means of propulsion through video animation from the beginning of the jet age to engines of today.

Future Concepts Zone

See projected advancements and future concepts ranging from materials to manufacturing.
