For families looking to augment their experience at Future of Flight, our Weekend Family Workshops offer fun and informative programs that have added a significant component for hundreds of visitors, providing a unique connection with flight and the science of aviation.
The five initial Weekend Family Workshop themes have been combined into one versatile yet comprehensive workshop. Specific topics will be identified and explored on the day of the program, with a constant emphasis on the basic science that makes flight possible, the power and educational value of organic flight, and a sense that aviation technology is continuing to evolve. Every visitor leaves with something they made; these workshops also emphasize creativity and artistic expression.
Workshops are free with Gallery or Tour admission, and free for members. Workshops are scheduled for every Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. and from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. For more information, please call Gus Posey at 425-438-8100 x231.
The Family Zone is home to a number of different activities, all designed around a theme of aircraft manufacturing and assembly. Activity carts let visitors build a simple aircraft model, or use our Lego (and Lego-compatible) pieces to express new ideas about aircraft design. A kid-sized airport and aircraft allow future pilots of all ages to practice their take-offs and landings. Currently, the Family Zone is also home to a highly engaging, hands-on nanotechnology exhibit, and our new Bernoulli Table, an exciting interactive experience that teaches the relationship between the velocity of air and the pressure it exerts. Coloring and reading activities are also available, and drop-ins are welcome. Admission is free for ticket holders and for Institute of Flight Members.
