Future of Flight Fights Back
Mukilteo, Wash – January 29, 2007 – The Future of Flight has organized a dedicated team of climbers to raise funds and awareness for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Big Climb for Leukemia, an event that takes place on Sunday, March 18, 2007 in downtown Seattle. The team will climb 69 floors in the Columbia Center building (one of the tallest buildings in Seattle) to raise money for research that will someday lead to a cure for blood cancers.
Future of Flight team members have been practicing for the past eight months in an undisclosed, Snohomish County stairwell in preparation for the Big Climb. Each member climbs between 138 and 190 floors, on average, per week. “At first we began to climb together to stay fit,” said Sandy Ward team captain and four time Big Climb veteran, “but like most exercise programs, it usually takes more to stay motivated. Climbing for a cause provides that motivation.”
“Climbing real stairs, not just a stair climber in a gym, is very hard work but nothing compared to what it takes to fight blood cancers,” said Barry Smith, Future of Flight Foundation Executive Director. “The Future of Flight Foundation is proud to support the team goal of raising $2500 for the cause and we have gladly committed to match what this team raises. We challenge other Snohomish County organizations to join us in matching this goal as well.”
