Jet Engines Move to Future of Flight

Everett, WA — Three jet engines will call Future of Flight Aviation Center home as of Monday, October 3, 2005. The engines will be moved from the Snohomish County Airport at Paine Field to the Future of Flight between noon and 2pm. The engines will be moved but not installed until after a Boeing 747-100 vertical fin is placed in the gallery. The vertical fin is currently in Tucson, Arizona awaiting a special rail car, which was delayed by Hurricane Katrina.

The Propulsion Zone in the aviation center’s gallery will feature one of the world’s largest jet engines, an impressive Pratt & Whitney model PW4098, which weighs in at 14,700 lbs and is 16 feet long and 9 feet wide. Two other engines, a JT3P from a Boeing 707 and a Rolls Royce Avon from the DeHavalind Comet will also be featured.

The Future of Flight Aviation Center & Boeing Tour is a unique interpretive facility designed to let visitors experience the marvel of commercial jet aviation and production. From interactive exhibits – design your own airplane – to the only tour of a commercial jet assembly plant in North America, the Future of Flight will add a major attraction to Western Washington when it opens later this year.
