Aerospace Ambassador Ayush Nag presents at the 2017 Pacific Model UN Conference

Ayush Nag not only demonstrates his keen interest in aerospace as an Aerospace Ambassador at the Future of Flight on Sundays; he offers a strong interest in world issues as well.

The Redmond High School student served as his school’s Model United Nations (MUN) Club representative at a recent Model UN conference that was held in Seattle.

Model United Nations is an educational simulation academic activity in which students learn about diplomacy, international relations, and the United Nations. MUN involves and teaches participants about researching, public speaking, debating, and writing skills, in addition to critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership abilities. It engages students and allows them to develop deeper understanding of current world issues.

Selected to represent the Republic of Uganda at MUN, Nag prepared for the event by researching the Central African country and participating in small practice sessions to fine-tune his public speaking skills for the student-run conference.

One of his favorite parts of the conference was the emergency session called the Midnight Crisis, where his committee was required to help solve a real-life crisis occurring in the world.

“It was really cool to experience different countries coming up with quick and reactive solutions based on the situation at hand,” said Nag. "Both the Aerospace Ambassador Program and MUN experience have provided me with tremendous knowledge about how the world works and general life skills needed in every aspect of life. Anyone considering joining either of these programs, should definitely check them out.”

Create a Special Valentine with/for your Sweetheart

By Melvin Givens, Membership & Events Coordinator
January 13, 2017

From sweets to spa retreats, you have so many opportunities to buy something for your Valentine. This year divert from some of that stress and come in to  create a special Valentine's Day card to accompany your sweetheart's gift!

Maker Workshops are new every month, and for our first class on February 4, 2017, we’ll be using digital die cutters (a kid-friendly CNC tool) to make pop-up Valentine cards. The workshop runs from  11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Makerspace in the Future of Flight Aviation Center.

Education Coordinator Kyle Bates-Green will teach you how to create various types of Valentine cards during this 2-hour workshop. All creative supplies will be provided - enough to make multiple cards!  ($15 member admission)

Here are five things to know about the Maker Workshops:

1. Workshops are for adults and children alike

The Maker Workshop is for the young and the young at heart. You don't have to be a technology expert - this class will provide you with an introduction to the art of 3D production. Create a card with, or for, your sweetheart/child/grandchild.

2. Bring a couple of friends

No need to do it alone. Bring a couple of friends or family members along with you for the experience. The more, the merrier.

3. There are three levels to the workshop

Makers can master three different levels of Valentine's Day cards...from 2D to elaborate 3D pop ups. It's an experience you'll never forget and it is lots of fun!

4. Bring in four or more images/photos on a USB

Find inspiration! Bring in five or more images/photos on a USB drive and incorporate them into your card design, in addition to our current clip art gallery.

5. Take home a custom designed card for your Valentine!

Let your creativity fly after your die cutter lesson! Make one or more of your special Valentine's Day card designs. Then prepare to bring joy to your sweetheart on February 14.

If you have questions about Maker Workshops, contact Kyle at or 425-438-8100 x220. For more on your membership benefits, please contact Melvin at or 425-438-8100 x247.
