An idea – a dream – flickered to life in 2001. The dream was about building a facility at Paine Field in Snohomish County, Washington, that would combine larger quarters for the increasingly popular public tour of the Boeing factory with an aviation exhibit gallery and conference center. Soon support for the concept began to build among key public and private entities, financial resources were identified, and by 2003 formal planning was well under way. Construction of the project began in 2004 and was completed in late 2005. During that time a non-profit organization was incorporated, which started out as a modest fundraiser for aspects of the project but became a key participant in accomplishing a large list of tasks essential to the successful opening and operation of the facility.
